END OF2008

Well, how time flies, it's bye-bye 2008 and hi 2009.

As the year comes to an end, it is customary to sms greetings to frens and getting replies thereof.
As usual i send quite a number but two did not reply yet. Maybe they are busy or maybe plain lazy. Whatever, its year end, just wait for countdown 2009.

During this one whole year, i experience a lot of things be it business or personal life. It was exciting and heart breaking. Just like a roller coaster but one thing for sure, just face it when it comes, the dreaded recession, economic downturn.....whatever terms you used. It's the same, the inevitable has arrived. In fact the whole world will face the economic tsunami. I pray and hope that we shall overcome it with the most minimum impact.

Tung Chit

Today chinese around the world will be celebrating Tung Chit. According to tradition, Tung Chit is in fact bigger than Chinese New Year. Apparently we tend to emphasize more on Chinese New Year.

This morning work up and helped my wife to prepare Tong Yuen, something like glutinous balls (similar to fish ball) . Later will send some to my friend Ricky who is my neighbour. He likes it cold while i prefer hot. Different taste.

Today will be quick hectic as i have to meet up with my friends in the afternoon and also i'll be pasting up notices around the apartments in respect of the ongoings around the vicinity through our committee. Hopefully residents will log on to the blog for a first hand notice.

Coming back to this Tung Chit, it has passed down from generation to generation. Even though the preparation had differs when i was just a small kid, the meaning of celebrating this festival is still very much alive. Therefore, i urged all chinese to continue upholding this tradition for many many more generations.

The traditional festival that had been created by our forefathers ought to be followed by the younger generations for the preservation of our culture and tradition. It's is our roots and we must preserved it.

RUBBISH SAGA

Just came back from work at around 4pm and first thing that cross my mind is to find out the latest status in respect of the dump site. I notice that there are workers scooping up the debris at the compound and into the respective bins. This is a slight improvement on the part of Taylor Hobbs who manage to get the co-operation from the contract workers to do the work.

However, i am still not satisfied with the manner in this controversy. With the impending holidays, it is of utmost urgency that this problem be settled immediately otherwise the rubbish will accumulate again during the wek-ends and Christmas holiday. Talking about christmas, santa clause will not be coming for his usual rounds in presenting presents to children this because of this awful sight. He will be put-off by this ugly sight. Sorry kids, maybe better luck next year. Perhaps Taylor Hobbs will due to guilt, will replace the ever favourite santa claus to put in at least one sweet into all post boxs at Country Heights.

The residents can only pray that Taylor Hobbs and the contract workers can really solve this uncalled problem as soon as possible. Any Happly Smelly.....ooops i mean Merry Christmas.

A VERY HEART ACHING NEWS

Early of this week, i met up with my step sister, Hennie. We were join by a few old friends and we were talking all issues from politics to family matters.

When we touch on family matters, she suddenly told me that her niece is seeking divorce proceedings against her husband. I was stunned and silent for a while. U see, her niece, Elaine, is a very nice lady and my god, beautiful too. A mother of two, she is a career lady.

The reson of this sad ending is that as usual, the hubby got hitched with anyother woman thus becoming third party affair. I felt sorry for her. She must have suffered very much to the extent of making the first move to invalidate their marriage. Later we continue our chatting again.

But deep inside my heart, it is very heart aching and i can under the pain that she suffers. Life as a human being is very unpredictable. We really can't judge anyone as they can really do wonders which you may caught off-guard.

Whilst i am not an expert in this kind of thing but i can understand that nothing is impossible. Anything can happen when you least expected it. It depends on how you react to it.

As for Elaine, all i can say is that you have make a decision and you will have to leave with it. Take good care of your kids and who knows your sincerity and honesty will pay dividend in future. All the best to you.

PREVAILING RUBBISH PROBLEM

The stench has finally created a very pungent foul smell after days being left unattended. Though MDP did send lorry to scoop up the rubbish but the overwhelming amount of rubbish left them unable to cope.

This morning CHARM vice chairman Daniel went to the office to lodge a formal complaint with Taylor Hobbs who said that MDP will be sending lorry to solve the problem. Daniel requested that when MDP lorry arrived, Taylor Hobbs and contract workers ought to be present to render whatever assistance to MDP to help clear out the rubbish which is nearing 1 week old.

Sadly to say when Daniel check again, Taylor Hobbs and contract workers were conveniently absence while MDP personnel help to clear up the debris. This is indeed appreciable and i salute MDP for their social obligation which goes beyond the duties. Thumbs down to Taylor Hobbs and contract workers. it was a total let down by these so-called professionals.

Daniel immediately went to office but no one was available, presumably lunch time even though we were inform by taylor hobbs boss Liaw that personnel will be manning the counters during lunch-time. Have they chicken out. Let's face reality and turun padang instead off enjoying yourself in the air-conditioned office.

Taylor Hobbs continued silence in this controvery is unimaginable and out of bad taste. Their tidak apa attitude is deplorable and should be discouraged at once. Please put up notices informing the residents of the real problem so that the residents will know the whole truth. That's what transparency is all about.

CHARM will see what happened tomorrow and will definitely take the necessary action to address this uncalled controversy. The residents are suffering even though they are required to make monthly contributions. Enough is enough..........

FIELD TRIPS

Phew! Just came back from outstation trips to Lahad Datu and Sandakan with my new salesman. Tired but need to create updates. Started our journey to Lahad Datu at around 10.30am. Considered late and it took us 6 hours to reach lahad datu. Immediately check in hotel as it was getting late. Had a rest and we went for supper. A special dish, fried kangkung. Haven't tasted yet. In future when you are in lahad datu, just go to a place locally known as volkswagen. It has a row of lots selling food (something like food court) The stall is at the second last. The dinner was sumptuous and it's cheap, three dishes costs only RM22.00.

Next morning visited customers and opening new accounts. We leave lahad datu at around 2pm.
Half way before reaching check-point we had a burst tyre. Subsequently we parked at the road side. We took out the spares but to our horror, it was flat. We were helpless as we do not know what to do. Luckily a local kampong man came and advised us to go to his neighbours to inflate the tyre. My salesman vincent dutifully went over and later came back with the inflated tyre. We thanked the simple malay man profusely before we continued our journey. On reaching the checkpoint we check our tyres at a tyre shop. After the needful top-up we continued our journey reaching Sandakan at around 6.30 pm much to our relief.

We stayed for two nights doing sales and collections. It was good and we enjoyed ourselves. Met Y2K Chong and Mr. Chong at dinner at kim fung market. The food is good and cheap. The next day we left Sandakan at 12 noon. We stopped at Ranau and Kundasang for collection and orders.
Reached Kota Kinabalu at 6.00pm.

Recalling back, it was adventurous and exciting especially the tyre incident. It was a harrowing experience but luckily we met this local malay man who came to our help. If not for him we will be at a loss. Thank you again this malay man. If i do go back i might visit him again (i know his house).

This goes to show that racial tolerance and integration is at its highest level in Sabah. A long way to follow, my semenanjung brothers.

LAWAS TRIP

Yesterday at around 9.00 am we started off from house for a short breakfast at Putatan. At around 9.30am we started our journey to lawas. The weather was exceptionally fine for outdoor activities. I had expected heavy traffic because of the long holidays but it was smooth sailing all the way with a bit hiccup on and off.

When we reached papar, the traffic was a bit heavy but after awhile it was back to normal and we continue our journey towards Beaufort. The sight of long greens and paddy fields were a welcome sight from the normal heavy bustle in the city. We spotted some buffaloes lazying themselves under trees and having their own sweet time. Along the journey we saw some cows grazing grass all done in slow motion.

When we reached Beaufort, we stop at the station for gas and to ease ourselves too. After a short rest, off we go to Sipitang. Before we reached Sipitang, we witness a car accident. The front portion of the car was a total wreck but i think no one lost their lives. It was a horrible sight. Off we continue to sipitang reaching there around noon.

Finally we reached the border of Lawas. There was a slight jam at the immigration counter as there is only one counter opened. We line up dutifully and when it was our turn, i notice that the immigration was overworked but he offered me a smile when i submit our mycards to him. I took this opportunity to start a conversation and he was very polite and cheerful even thought he was clearly drawn out. I really salute him for his professionalism. Syabas Sabah.

Then it is the turn to go to the Sarawak Immigration counter. It was the same scenario with the immigration officer ever smiling and very professional. We continue our journey towards Lawas which is about 40 minutes drive. At lst we reached lawas. Had a short rest and lunch we went sightseeing. A relatively small town but beautiful and quiet.

Our journey back home was pleasant and we reached kk at around 5 pm. It was taxing but we are really happy especially the encounters with the immigration officers. Their true professionalism and dedication to the work really augurs well for the government image. It is high time their counterparts from semenanjung do organise more study trips to Sabah and Sarawak to better enhance their skills in dealing with the rakyat.

WRONG SMS

I got a pleasant surprise when my female friend sms me a rather lovely mail. I was happy initially and i replied accordingly lah... but within secs another sms from her apologising that she made an error and the sms was not meant to me. So my illusions disappear immediately.

Looking back in this situation things can get confusing and embarrassing. However, at least it cheer me up a bit even though momentarily. Anyway, thanks for the sms...or rather wrong sms.

Looking forward to received such sms again even thought errorly sent...ha...ha....

HOLIDAY TRIP TO LAWAS

Ha..... tomorrow will take my family minus my daughter (as she is studying in UTAR KL) to a trip to Lawas, Sarawak. The trip takes about 2hours 45 mins passing thought small towns like papar, beaufort and sipitang.

It will be a day trip and we'll be back in the evening in time for me to blog...etc...etc.... While in Lawas, will definitely try their famous kon lou mee..... made of flour and minced meat..... Local favourite and its cheap...RM2.50 per plate.

I hope the weather will be fine, need to check my car condition before departure. Looking forward to the trip. BB

PERSONAL ISSUES

Well, i received a comment indicating that it will be better for me to write more articles of myself or personally. I guess for a change, i will just do that. Anyway thanks for your view and comment. Appreciate it.

This morning while still in Kota Marudu, a small town in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia on business trip, i decided to rush home (Kota Kinabalu) to attend a meeting between management and resident committee Country Heights Apartment Resident Committee (CHARM). Managed to reach meeting place at 3.00pm. The meeting went on smoothly as all problems were given to them in detailed and they promise to solve them individually. The meeting lasted until 4.30pm after which a few of us CHARM had some teh tarik at our usual hangout kopitiam. Roslan ordered maggie mee, followed by amsan and of course myself wouldn't want to be left out. Later helendiah, daniel and mrs. yap joined us. We discussed what happen and we discuss our next course of action.

The real issue of me bringing this meeting is to show to all that racial harmony truly exist in Sabah, Malaysia. With people of different race and religion, we still can sit down and have our favourite teh tarikh, this is something very sacred and i hope that this is a small example of racial tolerance and respect which i am sure can be the envy of others.

We have decided that our next teh tarik meeting will be next week. Any fine example of comaraderie extraordinary......

PM's DEPARTING HOPES?

PM Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he wants to deal with three important key issues, corruption, the judiciary appointment commission and the special complaints commission before leaving office in March 2009. He also expressed fear that if these issues are not addressed, the nation will be in trouble.

Firstly i thanked the pm for his foresightedness that these issues are very important that needs to be addressed but is it timely or a little bit too late? If any indication that efforts are being made to rectify these pressing issues, then the recent appointment in the judiciary make me a bit apprehensive.

It is commended that the pm will try to solve these issues but with not much time left, can his wish be fulfilled? Bearing in mind that he has ample time to do so previously. Is he successful?

Whilst the rakyat will welcome this noble initiative, the success in implementing these issues will be left to be seen. PM, the ball is at your feet now. Thank you for your initiative.

ECONOMIC WOES?

The recent statement by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Kong Cho Ha at the Dewan Rakyat today that our nation is only feeling the minimum impact of the global economic crisis and financial meltdown.

Whilst i hope that i am wrong in this respect but the prevailing economic situation in the country begs to differ. For a start most of the commodities are experiencing low pricing especially palm oil which hit rock-bottom. All these industries are facing financial problems and the possibility of retrenchment is imminent thus creating social problems for the government.

The manufacturing sectors fare no better. With sales dropping and collections being restricted and couple by the financial squeeze, retrenchment is inevitable. A very gloomy prospect for our economy.

In all fairness, the government is trying their best to alleviate this problem financial stimulus being introduce to combat the economic woes but can it really sustain the impact.

While it is pointless to finger point any party for this problem, it is better for interested parties to
really sit down together whether BN or PR to chart our future in facing this problem. At the end of the day the ones that suffers most is the RAKYAT. Please do the needful because the RAKYAT are crying for HELP.........
